Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club will operate Special Event Station W2E from the Earth Day event on Friday, 4/13 at the Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park.
SPARC participates in Maker's Day at the Piscataway Public Library. 20 youngsters were taught skills in soldering, kit building and Amateur Radio.
We would like to welcome our newest Section Technical Specialist Randy Smith, WU2S. Randy's technical specialty is AREDN Mesh Networking. His activities with mesh networking include participating in a number of local events where capabilities for Voice-over-IP, text messaging and video surveillance are demonstrated to public officials. Randy continues to test new versions of AREDN firmware on a wide variety of gear. He keeps us informed about AREDN developments through personal contact and presentations.
The Joint MARS/Amateur Radio Service Communications Exercise, (COMEX 18-1), will take place from 8:00am Tuesday 2/20/18 through 8:00pm on Friday 2/23/18. Once again The premise is a long-term denial of cyberspace throughout North America. As in past exercises, the goal is to solicit and collect County Status/Infrastructure reports from all 83 counties that make up New York and New Jersey. This will be the first time we have ever had a general membership meeting. The Director will discuss the recent ARRL happenings, the January Board meeting, the changes in the League management, and my testimony before the U.S. Senate on January 25th.
The submission period is open for the annual "Young Hams Lend a Hand" contest! By April 1st hams can submit an informal statement explaining why they choose a young ham who has volunteered service to the community to win this contest. The volunteerism can be helping the elderly, assisting military personnel, community volunteering, etc. The winner is announced at the Youth Forum and receives a $100 award.
