Don’t let those winter doldrums keep you locked up in the house… get out and play some radio!! Winter Field Day runs from from 1900 UTC (2pm EST) Saturday 1/27 to 1900 UTC (2pm EST) Sunday 1/28. Disasters are unpredictable by nature and can strike when you least expect them.
Here is the summary for the NNJ Section:
The Wayne Radio Amateur Emergency Team club hosted the Boy Scout Troop 108 during JOTA on October 21st. In addition to successful contacts on HF and VHF, the scouts earned their radio merit badges through instruction given by the Club. The "field day" site was set up at Our Lady of the Valley church in Wayne.( PHOTOS )

Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System (NBEMS) is a messaging system used by different agencies including ARES, RACES, MARS, FEMA, The Red Cross, and the national weather services to pass digital traffic (messages) like radiograms, incident reports and even weather reports during emergencies. FlDIGI is a software package used to send and receive NBEMS messages digitally.
As part of its 2017 Speaker Series, The Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club will feature a presentation "YLs, SDR and Setting Up A World Class Station". The speaker will be Ria Jairam (N2RJ), a world class contest operator and member of the Frankford Radio Club. Ria will be discussing the latest technology and offerings from Flex Radio, the HPSDR project (Ananradios), RTL-SDR and others, as well as practical tips for contesting, DXing and rag chewing using your SDR.
On October 20th and 21st, local area scouts will have the opportunity to participate in the largest "get together" of scouts around the world. The annual Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) is the largest scouting event in the world bringing together more than one million Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from over 30,000 locations and 150 countries through the use of amateur radio.
We're fortunate that there will be *three* JOTA events in NNJ:
