Weekly Passaic County ARES NET

The net will be held on the WO2X repeater EVERY MONDAY @ 2100 LOCAL (9PM).

Repeater information: 443.450 MHz (+5) PL Tone:     141.3 Hz 

The purpose of the net is the training for Emergency Communications, conducting drills and discussing all other ARES topics.

Special thanks to Dave (WO2X) for allowing the use of his repeater during the net.

All amateur operators are welcome to join the net, especially those who live in Passaic county.

Hurricane Watch Net activated for "Harvey"

The Hurricane Watch Net has been activated today (8/25) on 14.325.00 MHz. They will operate on the 20 meter frequency until 9:00 PM EDT – 0100 UTC. They will activate 7.268.00 MHz at 8:00 PM EDT – 0000 UTC. This will allow a one hour overlap between bands. Should propagation dictate, they will operate both frequencies simultaneously. The net will remain active until further notice.

Please monitor but keep the frequencies clear for priority traffic.

On July 21st, Fair Lawn ARC, hosted Dr. N.A.Frissell, W2NAF, where he spoke about the upcoming Solar Eclipse and how Amateur Radio will play a role in a scientific study of how the ionosphere changes during the event. Scouting Solar Eclipse Viewing event

Boy Scout Troop 159 ( http://olqptroopandpack159.org/ ) is planning a viewing event at Wallish Farms in West Milford. All Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts are invited to attend. Scott Wylie, WY1LIE, will be setting up an HF station and participating in the SEQP ( http://hamsci.org/solar-eclipse-qso-party ) demonstrating amateur radio and promoting citizen science. The science part if the SEQP fulfills a requirement for a STEM award.
