Matt Mullins, KD2MLR, President, Pioneer Amateur Radio Club - W2WPU at William Paterson University reports:

The Pioneer Amateur Radio Club, W2WPU has been working with the Vieques Island Amateur Radio Club, WP4PQU, to establish a contingent of operators on the island to respond in the next emergency. Approximately 40 people attended the session.

Class 1In cooperation with ViequesLove, a local non-profit founded in the wake of Maria, the club helped to secure funding for 2 base units for shacks on both sides of the island, as well as 25 handhelds and 3 mobile units for deployment across it.

In addition, we are planning to have a presentation at William Paterson on our efforts sometime before the end of the year, and I hope to have a date set for that soon.

I encourage you to check out the project's website at gobrave.org/Vieques and watch our videos on our experiences in Puerto Rico.
